Incident # 0700189 on Wednesday 2/14/2007 at 01:08:00 responded to a, BOX 444 at 101 Main ST. Hopkinton. Property was a 419 (1 or 2 family dwelling) for 111 (Building fire). Group 1 were on duty and the Duty officer was Chief Gary Daugherty, Sr.. First on scene was Eng 1 at 01:10:00, Action taken was 11 (Extinguish). The response time was 2.00, last unit cleared the scene at 06:30:00, and the duration of the call was 322.00 minutes.
Dispatched for reported building explosion and fire. Upon arrival E-1 reported heavy fire showing from the first and second floors of a multi-family home. Second alarm was requested per Lt. Slaman. Second alarm companies were Milford E-2, Southboro E 22 and Ashland E-2 and Tower 1. MIlford and Ashland personnel were used to assist with extinguishment activities, Southboro engine assigned to RIT sector.
E-1 stretched (2) 1 3/4" handlines. First line went to side "c" of building to extinguish large volume of fire located on the rear portion of the dwelling including the rear deck. This line was then taken inside the dwelling to extinguish fire located on the interior of the dwelling "c" side. Second line was stretched to division 2 and used to extinguish fire located on division 2 and extension of fire into attic space. E-2 arrived and assisted with water supply and manpower to operate handlines in division 1 and 2 areas. R-1 arrived on scene and provided lighting and support functions.
Fire contained primarily to exterior portion of dwelling on the "c" side. Extension into structure on all 3 floors was contained to rear portion.
State Fire Marshal Trp. Tim Bombard and Hopkinton Detective Jay Porter were requested to assist in the investigation. Fire appears to have originated in the rear portion of the structure under the deck area. At this time the cause remains under investigation.
