We received a call from the P.D. reporting a garage fire at number 121 Hayden Rowe. E-1 was dispatched and Box 444 was struck. Prior to leaving the station, an off duty police officer called back and confirmed a working fire. Upon arrival of C-1, he reported that he had smoke showing from a 1.5 story wood frame and would be establishing command. C-1 called back and gave a second report of heavy fire on the B-side of the building in the garage and requested a second alarm for Ashlands Tower, Engine to the fire from Milford and Southboro to cover. E-1 arrived and stretched an 1 3/4 hand line to division one, B - side. E-1's crew operated on division one and held the fire from extending into the house. A second 1 3/4 hand line was stretched to the front of the garage and put into operation. E-2 arrived and laid a four inch feeder from the hydrant to E-1, then went back and pumped the hydrant. Upon arrival of Ashlands Tower, they were sent to the roof for a trench cut between the garage and the house. At this time command was turned over to C-2 due to the fact C-1 was treating a burn patient. Milford E-2 and C-1 arrived and were set as the RIC Team. Chief Touey took over the command board. The Southboro Engine was diverted to the fire and Westboro was brought in to cover the station. Upon arrival of Southboro, they were sent to division two with LT. Miller to check for extension. The knee wall on the B - side division two was opened up. There was charring that had come up from below. The entire lower half of the wall was opened up and wet down. Salvage covers had been placed on division one to cover up the furniture. At this time the fire was placed under control. E-2's feeder line was picked up. Southboro and Milford Engines were released. The Ashland Tower company stayed on scene to assist with minor overhauling in the garage. Once overhauling was completed in the garage, all units were released.

Addendum: April 30, 2007:

Investigation of fire. Per interview with occupant. He stated that he was welding a jeep that he was restoring, when he felt a large amount of heat behind him. He took off his welding helmet as saw the area around him was on fire. He attempted to extinguish the fire using two fire extinguisher but was unable to do so. At that time, he exited the building. He was injured during his attempt to extinguish the fire and exiting the building. He was treated at the scene by Hopkinton Fire Paramedics and transported to Milford Regional Medical Center.

We were able to locate welding equipment and a grounding strap was still in place on the jeep indicating that welding had been taking place at some point in time.
