Incident # 0700146 on Sunday 2/4/2007 at 00:45:00 responded to a, BOX 444 at 24 Hayden Rowe ST. Hopkinton. Property was a 419 (1 or 2 family dwelling) for 111 (Building fire). Group 1 were on duty and the Duty officer was . First on scene was Eng 1 at 00:48:00, Action taken was 11 (Extinguish). The response time was 3.00, last unit cleared the scene at 04:20:00, and the duration of the call was 215.00 minutes.

Received call for some type of possible fire at 22 Hayden Rowe St. Engine responded and upon arrival was directed into the kitchen of 22 Hayden Rowe St., where the occupant of 24 Hayden Rowe St. was seated. Patient was covered in soot and had burns over approximately 40-50 percent of his body. Extensive burns were noted on patients hands and feet. Patient was conscious, but was not communicating much with the people present. ALS ambulance was dispatched from Ashland Fire. Upon their arrival patient care was transferred from Hopkinton Paramedics to Ashland. Lifeflight was requested and upon their arrival they landed at the Center School. Ashland Fire transported patient to landing zone, and patient care was transferred to Life-flight crew. Patient was flown to burn unit at Brigham and Womens Medical Center in Boston.

Personnel from Engine 1 began to provide emergency medical care while Lt. Slaman from Engine 1 started to assess scene for fire location. Command was passed to Chief Daugherty.

Lt. Slaman Engine 1 located fire on second floor of dwelling located at 24 Hayden Rowe St.. 2" handline was stretched to second floor for extinguishment purposes. 1 3/4" hand line was stretched to first floor to protect area from extension. Crew from Engine 2, provided water supply to Engine 1 and then assisted with primary search of second floor and ventilation. Ashland fire responded with an Engine and they were assigned to assist with ventilation and secondary seach. Southboro fire responded and was assigned to RIT operations. Milford ladder on scene as ladder company.

Fire was extinguished using handlines off Engine 1.

Fire was contained to middle room on second floor of the dwelling located at 24 Hayden Rowe St.

INVESTIGATION

Fire was located in second floor room which was being used for what appeared to be a combination utility room and office space. Fire originated in space in area at the end of work table/desk. Fire appears to have started in pile of paper which was located on the floor. In addition to the paper there was what appeared to be a brief case and numerous tennis rackets. Fire was contained to this room. There was some minor spread of fire to the first floor through several burn throughs in the floor, but the fire was on the first floor was very small in nature.

Heavy smoke was present throughout the second floor of the building.
