Incident # 0700324 on Monday 3/12/2007 at 23:38:00 responded to a, Code 55 at Mass Pike West Bound HWY. Hopkinton. Property was a 961 (Highway or divided highway) for 132 (Road freight or transport vehicle fire). Group 4 were on duty and the Duty officer was Chief Gary Daugherty, Sr.. First on scene was Eng 2 at 23:49:00, Action taken was 11 (Extinguish). The response time was 11.00, last unit cleared the scene at 05:55:00, and the duration of the call was 377.00 minutes.

Incident #07-0324 on 12 March 2007.

Responded to reported tractor trailer unit on fire west bound on the Mass. Turnpike just west of interchange 11A. Upon arrival, Westboro FD on scene with two (2) tractor trailer units on fire as a result of a collision. Hopkinton C-1 confired with Westboro C-2 and command was assumed by Hopkinton C-1. A full box assignment was requested from Hopkinton. Southboro FD also requested to respond with an engine. Hand lines with Class A foam were stretched from several engines and Hopkinton Tanker 1 shuttled water to the scene. Hopkinton R-1 on scene to provide lighting and extrication support.

Vehicle #1 was a car carrier and was carrying 6 cars. All the vehicles on vehicle #1 were on fire as well as vehicle #2 that struck vehicle #1 from the rear. The tractor of vehicle #1 was disconnected from the car carrier and moved away from the burning vehicles by the vehicles operator. Initial scene assessment revealed vehicle #1's car carrier, six (6) vehicles stored on the car carrier and the tractor and front portion of the empty box trailer on vehicle #2 involved in fire. The deceased operator of vehicle #2 was trapped in the remains of the vehicles cab. A representative from the State Fire Marshal's office was requested to the scene along with the Medical Examiners office and DEP. As a precaution from vehicle fluid spills booms were placed on the ground off the breakdown side of the roadway at the edge of the woods to stop migration of diesel fuel and gasoline on the water from the hose lines. After scene investigations by the State Police Accident Reconstruction Units and the State Fire Marshals Unit was complete the victim was removed from the vehicle and taken from the scene by a funeral home service. The victim was accessed and removed from the cab by personnel after Ted's removed the top rear vehicle on the car carrier. Come-alongs and the Hurst extrication equipment was utilized to gain access to and remove the victim. Units stood by on scene until all the vehicles were removed by Ted's. Units cleared the scene and command was terminated.
